Colt CR6920-EC 14.5″ Pin/Weld

The Colt CR6920-EC 14.5″ pin/weld carbine is a variation of the previously released CR6920-EC 16″ barrel carbine. The carbines started life as 14.5″ carbines manufactured to European CIP specifications and have .223 caliber chambers. I have verified the chambering.

I have to apologize in advance for the overall mediocre to poor photo quality. I tried a grey backdrop for the photos and the results are less than satisfactory. I will reshoot photos at a future date but wanted to get these photos published for people who will be looking for information on this Colt firearm.

The unfortunate thing for a collector, is that Colt has distributed both the CR6920-EC 16″ and the CR6920-EC 14.5″ pin/weld under the same model number/SKU of CR6920-EC. So if you are looking to purchase an example over the internet, by phone, etc. you want to be sure to verify that you are getting the variation that you want…either the 16″ or 14.5″ pin/weld.

This carbine is a perfect example as to why you cannot use the barrier bag or the accessory bag date to date the production of firearm.

The barrier bag is dated January 2024

The accessory bag date is April 2019.

Scanning of my production QR code has a date of March 20, 2024 as shown below.

So, as this demonstrates, the dates on bags are simply dates applicable only to those bags. The dates have no correspondence to the firearm manufacturing date.

The unique thing about this carbine model, besides it being built to European CIP specifications and being chambered for .223, is that a new Colt proprietary drop in rail system is debuting on this model.

Vaguely visible in the photograph below is the CAGE code, “Square” forge code and the CIP markings on the bolt carrier.

Barrel markings are C MP 223 REM 1/7

Barely visible in the photo below are the CIP markings on the side of the barrel just forward of the front sight post.

Visible in the photo below are the CIP markings on both the upper receiver and the lower receiver just behind the front pivot pin.

Here is a better view of the upper receiver/lower receiver CIP markings.

Below is a closer view of the new, proprietary Colt drop-in rail design. The Colt ‘Serpent’ logo is visible at the front end of the rail just behind the front sight post.

I will be taking some more detailed photos and coming back here to update the page. This is just a preliminary post to make some reference available to potential purchasers. Let me know if you have any questions about this Colt model?
